Prvá stavebná sporiteľňa (PSS) is the largest specialized bank for housing finance in Slovakia. Operating in the market since 1992, the bank uses the OpenText platform for document management – it currently stores more than 30 million client documents on the platform. Following a successful implementation and migration, IXTENT handles the day-to-day operation.
Initial Situation: A System That No Longer Met Requirements
PSS had addressed the digitization of client documentation from the very start of its operations – first with barcoded documents on microfilm, later through scanning into a document management system. Over time, however, that system no longer met legislative requirements (including GDPR) or the bank’s application and integration needs. The bank decided on a complete replacement.
Why OpenText and IXTENT
During the tender, the bank compared several proposals. The decisive criteria were alignment with the existing infrastructure, legislative requirements, references, and price. The OpenText platform was ultimately selected based on the solution’s comprehensiveness and scalability, regional support from IXTENT, and language pack support.
Migrating Tens of Millions of Documents
The project included the migration of tens of millions of historical client documents from the existing system. Despite its scale, the migration was completed successfully.

Thin Client: A Benefit for Users Across the Bank
The previous system required a client to be installed on every computer in the bank. The new thin client allowed users to work in multiple windows, and changes deployed overnight took effect immediately – with no workarounds or reinstallation of workstations. Web reports further streamlined the work of administrators, who use them to manage metadata and permissions efficiently.
Document Management Today: 5,000 New Documents Daily
Approximately 5,000 documents are added to the system each day – from scanning incoming correspondence, automated document generation for clients, and imports from integration portals. The system is not merely a repository: during processing, each document moves through various departments and statuses, all the way to archiving and subsequent disposal.
Operation relies on:
- daily monitoring of inputs from all integrations at both the service desk and application levels,
- performance metrics defined during the project (document opening, import, and search), tracked daily and evaluated weekly,
- security as a top priority – daily monitoring of vulnerabilities in the modules in use and the implementation of patches as part of IXTENT’s service activities.
As part of the service collaboration, the platform was also upgraded from version 16 to version 21, including the deployment of Intelligent Viewing for document display.
“What we agreed on in the service contract, IXTENT delivered,” Ivan Heriban adds.
Summary
Document management on the OpenText platform now covers the entire lifecycle of the bank’s documentation.
“We are satisfied with the OpenText platform. It is comprehensive, secure, and meets the requirements we expected from an information system. The integrations across all systems within the bank add value – they have opened up possibilities we did not have before,” Ivan Heriban concludes.
