Bar codes are a standard part of a majority of systems for administration and circulation of documents (DMS – Document Management System). Bar codes are an unambiguous indicator of all documents. They also expand the functionality of these systems, because when they are used, they make electronic processes much more effective. In addition, the archiving of original paper documents is much less demanding when bar codes are used.
The Livelink System for Administration and Circulation of Documents
Custom made bar codes are advantageous mostly for the fact that they save money, but doing your own printing is associated with a fairly large investment into the purchase and service of HW, SW, and operation and maintenance. These overhead costs can be minimised only when a large number of bar codes are produced. Most customers, however, do not use such a large number of bar codes, and for them custom made bar codes are much more advantageous financially.
Documents usually enter the system through scanning by a client using Livelink Enterprise Scan. Livelink Enterprise Scan completely and automatically recognises bar codes which are attached to individual documents. The client supports more than 70 different types of bar codes, the same as the whole Livelink system.
